Biography
Crystal L. Austin, PhD, LP, is an assistant professor of instruction in the Temple University College of Education and Human Development. She earned a doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Albany and is a licensed psychologist in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Dr. Austin’s clinical and research interests include exploration of intersecting identities, biracial identity experiences, and racism-related traumatic stress. She has developed and facilitated trainings for diverse professionals (e.g., educators, health professionals) about oppression-based trauma and trauma-conscious practice, and has been involved in research and evaluation of trauma-informed intervention. Prior to her time at Temple, Crystal worked in university and community mental health settings in a variety of roles, including intervention, assessment, outreach and supervision. In teaching, research, and practice, Dr. Austin strives to approach student, participant, and client care holistically and in a way that exercises cultural humility, curiosity, and respect.
