Admissions

The Dentistry (Advanced Standing Program for Internationally Trained Dentists) DMD accepts applicants who graduated from an accredited international dental school, including an American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) residency or postgraduate program or a non-CODA graduate program at a peer institution. Applicants should have at least two years of clinical experience proceeding their first dental degree.

Applications should be submitted to the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) through the Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists (CAAPID)

All applicants are assessed on their preclinical and communication skills, and they must pass an oral examination, which is conducted by the search committee.

Examinations

You must show satisfactory completion of the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE), Parts I and II or INDBE, to be considered for admissions into the 24-month or 36-month program. An official or notarized copy of NBDE will be requested by the school if invited to interview. Completion of the ADAT is not required for admission to the program.

TOEFL Score

Submit your TOEFL score of 100 or higher, or a similar score with an equivalent English language testing service. Your TOEFL score must be current and no more than two years old. An official or notarized copy of TOEFL examination will be requested by the school if you are invited to interview.

Supplemental Application and Fee

The supplemental application and the supplemental application fee request will be emailed to applicants. Supplemental application and fee must be received by the Kornberg School of Dentistry upon request. Application fees should not be submitted to ADEA CAAPID.

A skills assessment examination will be required for candidates who are invited to interview.

Qualifications and Acceptance

Requirements for the Advanced Standing Program for Internationally Trained Dentists are the same for both the two- and three-year programs. Preference will be given to applicants with advanced clinical experience and those who meet competency standards for students moving into the two-year Advanced Standing Program for Internationally Trained Dentists.

All applicants must be proficient in the English language.

Admission decisions are made by the Advanced Standing and Transfer Admissions Committee based on recommendations from faculty. Evaluating faculty conduct a full educational review to ensure an applicant's competence meets the standards of the Kornberg School of Dentistry.

Admission into the 24-month program will be based on an assessment of preclinical skills, communication skills and an oral examination conducted by the program’s search committee. The school places high weight on ethical and professional conduct and evidence for desire to learn and innovate. The program operates in a comprehensive general dentistry clinic that will simulate real-life private practice.
