Recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that technical writer jobs are growing at a fast rate. Graduates of the Scientific Writing PSM are prepared to use scientific writing skills in all relevant fields, including
- biotech and pharmaceutical marketing,
- editing,
- journalism,
- regulatory writing, and
- science writing.
Some of the companies and research institutions where graduates have secured positions as scientists, research associates and the like include
- Bristol Myers Squibb,
- Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia,
- Kibow Biotech,
- Spark Therapeutics,
- The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson and Johnson, and
- Thermo Fisher Scientific.
Internships
A key component of the Scientific Writing PSM degree is the capstone project, which typically originates from an internship in the second year. The goal of the internship is for the student to work on a real-world writing project in a professional work environment.
Students often work with faculty, a member of the Scientific Writing Advisory Board or a professional working at a company. Students work with the program director as well as the Office of Professional Development to get help finding an internship suited to their academic and career goals.
