Clinical education is a major component of the program. Supervised field placements occur at more than 80 clinical affiliate sites across the Philadelphia region, including early intervention agencies, rehabilitation and acute care hospitals, schools, and skilled nursing facilities. Bilingual clinical opportunities are also available. View the student clinical manual for the Speech, Language and Hearing Science MA program.
Clinical education placements also occur in Temple’s Speech-Language-Hearing Center.
The Philadelphia Aphasia Community at Temple (PACT) offers numerous hands-on clinical and research opportunities to students. It combines expertise in public health, speech-language pathology and therapeutic recreation with the goal of enhancing communication skills and quality of life for people with aphasia. Among other activities, PACT organizes art groups, a choir and conversation groups to help build communication ability and reduce social isolation. Students may also get involved in Speak Now, a summer camp for children and adolescents who stutter, to gain additional experience in clinical speech pathology.
Master’s students have access to a number of specialized facilities and labs, including a voice clinic. The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is also a center for transgender voice therapy research and clinical practice.
