Admissions

How to Apply

Apply using the Common Application. Learn more below about how to apply as a first-year, transfer or international applicant.

Fee: $55 (Fee waivers are available for freshmen who qualify.)

You must petition the department to request admission into one of the upper-level concentrations after you have completed 60 credits, typically at the end of your sophomore year. For more details, see the BA and BFA requirements for Film and Media Arts students in the section below.

The admissions team considers the following when reviewing your application.

Required Materials

  • Recommendations: Have one letter of recommendation.
  • Standardized Test Scores: Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) or the Temple Option.
  • Transcripts: Submit your academic transcripts.

Applying for the BFA

Upon acceptance and enrollment, you must initially declare yourself a Film and Media Arts major or a Film and Media Arts with Screen Studies concentration major. Upon the completion of 60 credits, you must complete the application process for the Bachelor of Fine Arts.

To apply for admission into one of the three upper-level Bachelor of Fine Arts concentrations in Directing, Media Arts, or Screenwriting, you must meet the following requirements.

Admissions Requirements

Coursework

Complete 60 credits of coursework.

Portfolio

Have a satisfactory creative portfolio (acceptance is contingent upon the evaluation of your portfolio).

Academic Performance

Demonstrate satisfactory academic performance via a GPA of 3.0 or more in courses. If your GPA is less than 3.0, you can

  • petition the relevant department for admission into your desired BFA concentration or petition the relevant department for admission into one of the upper-level BA concentrations in Cinematography, Producing or Post-Production, or
  • remain in the initial Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Arts program to earn the degree with a concentration in Screen Studies or with no concentration.
